Step 1

Paint all tracks, cliffs and patches of bare ground with your base earth colour (Fig 15). Must be fully dry before proceeding.

Step 2

Brush over the base earth colour with a heavy wash of dark brown (1:1, paint:water) (Fig 16). Must be fully dry before proceeding.

Step 3

Dry-brush with the original base earth colour (Fig 17). Must be fully dry before proceeding.

Step 4

Lighten some base earth colour with white. Apply sparingly to highlight weathered surfaces. Lightly dry-brush with the remainder to bring out the detail (Fig 18).
